Task 6

Recording, Editing and Mixing Audio
Creating original music with software and recorded student performances
Music notation
Online collaboration

a) The students will create, as whole class, an 8 bar song using the notes and rhythm that all learners are able to play.  This will be done with "traditional" tools such as blackboard, chart paper and overheads.

b) The students will learn how to enter the composition into NoteFlight.com.  The song will be given a name and embedded on the class blog.

c) Using Sony's Acid XPress, Mr. Toft's class will record themselves playing this song on the recorder. The audio files will be emailed to Mrs. Smith's class.

d) Mrs. Smith's class will listen to the audio sent to them.  Using Acid Xpress, they will create an accompaniment track for the melody.  The new song will then be posted on Mrs. Smith's class blog where students will be asked to write, in the form of a comment, about the experience.

The same process would be followed with Mrs. Smith's class sending a different song from PortableRecorder.ca for Mr. Toft's class to create an accompaniment and post on their blog.

Variation:  each class creates an accompaniment for the other class to create a melody for.
